Our Story
PEMBA INC was started by
Patricia and P. Michael Smith in July of 1997
Our journey started reviewing and stamping electrical plans and because of our automation and engineering education, we were asked to help to plan and design the lighting and a lighting control system. We quickly learned that the contractors needed help with selecting lighting.
Our business grew when others began requesting our services and work expanded to include audio-video and complete automation solutions.
We sought others to join our team, and after Katrina we took over a lighting showroom and electrical distribution business.
At PEMBA, we regularly evaluate new electrical, lighting, sound & automation products. We provide lighting design and engineering services, and go to market twice a year to bring new lighting & automation products to our customers.
PEMBA is a member of various organizations including CEDIA where we are a Registered Outreach instructor to provide training on various automation solutions to the trades.
Our team has a mix of skills and talents to help you with your project.

Why should anyone build with only a portion of the information they need. If you are looking at lighting, your product selection should include placement, type of light, layers and dimming. Nothing is visible without light. With awful lighting, you spend money without getting optimal results.

Lighting Design
PEMBA provides design services in engineering, lighting, and automation and regularly works with design and construction professionals to incorporate lighting and technology.
Lighting design is both technical and art. It is the application of quantity and type of light to a space. Lighting design should be used to illuminate and enhance. Light itself is important but the effects of light are of greater importance in our daily lives.
Patricia develops and presents human-centric lighting training courses for design and construction professionals.
Engineering & Design
PEMBA is a licensed professional engineering firm in the state of Louisiana and Texas. We have a background in Power Engineering.
Our company organization is unique and has great opportunities as we are both in the design field and also have a "hands on" knowledge of products.

P Michael Smith, PE, MBA
Michael has 30+ years of Electrical Engineering experience, is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is a degreed and registered Professional Engineer and has an MBA.
Patricia W Smith, CIS, MBA, ROI
Patricia has over 25 years of automation experience, 10 years of electrical engineering, has been involved in the Lighting Industry since 1994,is a member of the American Lighting Society, on the IAEI board, and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Patricia holds a bachelor of science in computer science and an MBA. Patricia’s strengths include Lighting Design, architectural lighting, electrical plans take off and design and lighting control solutions.
Robin "Moose" Terranova
Moose handles electrical counter sales and helps electrical contractors to select the correct electrical parts and lighting. He is our in house expert on the Leviton smart panels.
Kathy "Kat" McBride
Kat provides sales support in all areas of the company and keeps the PEMBA team up to date with the latest in LED lamp and lighting products so that our customers benefit with options to light each space appropriately. Kat’s strength is that she is tenacious so that our customers are pleased with all aspects of doing business with PEMBA. If you call early or late Kat will probably be available to help you.
Dallas Spatz
Dallas is skilled in programming a variety of lighting control and automation systems. He has been trained and is experienced with Savant, URC and several commercial lighting controls systems. Dallas both designs and installs audio-video equipment.
Khristian Fulmer
Khristian handles a variety of lighting product sales. After a short visit or phone call, Khristian can provide you lighting options to adorne your home, light your business and help you to stay in budget.
Chad Clay
Chad is experienced as an electrical installer and handles lighting, electrical and automation sales. He provides automation installation support, and commercial lighting sales quotations and support. Chad has set up a dimming lab and now PEMBA tests dimming compatibility for the products we sell.
